We might have enough sustainable goods and services, but not a window for the society to adopt them.

Long description

403 Museum by The Space is an inter-disciplinary, multi-function space that open our mind, broaden our horizons by experimenting on creating the ideal space that accommodates, facilitates, and empowers productivity and well-being for every person of the global society. At 403 Museum, we do not put sustainability anywhere in our titles and headings because we believe it shall be the default way of life and is incorporated in every aspect from our concepts to our operations, such as the organic waste that will be weighed every time before composting as fertilizers, the spatial design that adopts cardboard furniture and partitions, and upcycled lightings, the corner which everyone, anyone can freely bring in or bring home reusable items that are no longer being used, the incentives provided for visitors that adopt a sustainable lifestyle, to name a few. However, sustainability at 403 Museum does not stop at the environmental pillar of sustainability, but also devotes to improve social sustainability due to where it is located. 403 Museum is located in the Hamawaki area of Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, Japan, which is of historical value as the birthplace of Beppu Onsen, but the area’s liveliness has gradually declined after a redevelopment and the aging of the neighborhood. Therefore, it is a challenge for 403 Museum to discover the value and charm of this area again and to attract citizens and even tourists to visit and learn from it, by mobilizing the students from more than 100 countries currently residing in the city.
