Long description

With Waste to Harvest / Afval naar Oogst (ANO) we work hyperlocal and bottom-up on a kitchen waste to harvest cycle in Amsterdam. We are building on an infrastructure of ANO-locations to give Amsterdam residents  the ability to hand in their kitchen waste. We involve residents to waste issues and educate volunteers that monitor the kitchen waste to harvest process. We make logical use of and strengthen what is already present. On the terrains of already existing green projects like community gardens- and centers we set up ANO-locations where residents can hand in their kitchen waste which will on the spot be converted into compost. We professionalize existing compost facilities, educate their people and enlarge their communities. There are 107 of these places throughout Amsterdam neighborhoods, each with its own community of involved local residents. Through a campagne we call for more residents to hand in their kitchen waste at one of the ANO collection points. The kitchen waste is processed into high-quality compost by which the projects gardens are fed every season and vegetables/herbs/etc. grow from it; harvest! In this way we close the loop and give back to the earth. We believe we should solve part of the kitchen waste problem by including residents in the process.
