The bicycle market is booming – 2022 has seen 20 Mio+ bikes sold in Europe alone. Each of these bikes is packed in a single-use cardboard box – the result is 150 000 tons of cardboard waste, 140 000 tons of CO2 emissions and 1.2 million trees cut annually. After decades of accepting this single-use packaging, it’s time for a new model of bicycle transport. The linear economic model or ‘throwaway economy’ must be a thing of the past. To create a holistically sustainable system and use resources efficiently, we need a circular economy.

We offer a circular bike packaging solution based on a ‘pay-per-use’ business model. Instead of purchasing cardboard boxes that are disposed of after one use only, our customers “lease” a reusable BikeBoxPRO designed to last over 30 uses. While not in use, it folds into 20% of its total volume – hence is able to be returned at minimal cost by a local courier company through our integrated returns portal. The boxes are made from recyclable mono-material polypropylene. Once a box reaches its ‘end-of-life’, it will be removed, recycled into a new box, and automatically replaced.

The manufacturing of the Polypropylene sheeting, the fabrication of the boxes as well as the recycling process are done locally in Germany to minimize our ecological footprint.
