C-Up: We turn harmful plastic cigarette butts into degradable clean cellulose that can be turned into different products such as paper.
Long description
Cigarette butts are the world’s most littered item according to the UN. The public is usually unaware that these cotton like fibers are a kind of plastic called cellulose acetate that can take up to 14 years to degrade. Furthermore the butts are designed to contain all the chemicals from the cigarette, concentrating all of the toxic residuals after the cigarette’s short life span.
C-Up aims to tackle this problem by collecting and cleaning cigarette butts into clean degradable cellulose and then turning them into usable and printable paper or other products. We believe that by creating products with cigarette butts and implementing recollection strategies, that the public, cities and companies will become more interested in tackling this problematic and bring the cigarrette butt pollution problem to the forefront.
