With the reversible volume change from parcel to letter, the project creates a reusable packaging system for sustainable, circular shipping.
Long description
With the foldable shipping package developed in the project, the user is offered reusable packaging that can be returned to the sender free of charge for reuse. Circular use creates a sustainable packaging system. By unfolding the packaging, the usable transport volume of a DHL package type S of the size 35 cm x 25 cm x 10 cm with a permissible total weight of 2 kg is created.
A cellulose fiber fabric coated with PBS, a bio-based plastic made from sugar cane, forms the base material of the packaging. The material is water and oil resistant and can be welded. The high flexibility of the fiber fabric and the durability of the coating give the composite high impact resistance and impact strength. The folded edges are rolled into the material with heat and pressure.
For shipping, the package/ letter is wrapped with the lid flap and secured with Velcro. To protect the filled package, an expanding rivet with a predetermined breaking point is used as a connection between the cover and the package jacket. The intact rivet indicates to the recipient that the package has not been opened by unauthorized persons. The return slip is located on the inside of the lid flap, the address field on the outside.
