Recycling fired ceramic rejects to reduce mining for natural resources by 60%.
Long description
Archaeology has shown us that ceramics don’t biodegrade for centuries. Ceramic manufacturing industries, in India and globally, today are facing daunting challenges about what to do with their production rejects being landfilled since decades.
At Earth Tatva, we reduce mining for natural resources by 60% through our proprietary recycled ceramic material – TatvaMix – to make any existing ceramic products that perform far better than conventional ceramics.
The composition is made using clays that act as natural binders allowing us to recycle these products for multiple cycles without downgrading its quality. In fact, the material is tested and reported to be 35% stronger than conventional ceramics, along with being food-safe and microwave and dishwasher friendly.
The project started as a student graduation project for the founder’s Master’s degree in industrial design. The project was received well by various stakeholders which supported turning the student project into a commercial venture. After hundreds of tests and four years of persistence we are now able to carry out production with consistent results. The products have recently been launched in the D2C Indian market on our own website and have been gaining popularity among Indian consumers, enabling them to live a more green and circular lifestyle without changing their aesthetic preferences.
Essentially, doing more and better with less. Directly supporting United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal SDG-12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Our effort is to mainstream circular economy in the Indian market and globally for ceramic products, one mug at a time.
