Converting small spaces into gardens using minimal water
Long description
It is estimated that by the year 2050, over 50% of the population in Kenya will be living in urban areas by the world bank report 2015. As of the 2019 census that was conducted the the Kenyan government, 32% is already living in the urban areas. As land is cleared in the surrounding areas, land is becoming scarce for farming, solutions have to be made to feed this growing population. To reach the demand of food consumed by the urban dwellers, farmers have resulted into unconventional means of vegetable production, such as using sewer waste, excess use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides, this is affecting peoples health. The project that as ndogo farms, we are conducting, is to ensure urban dwellers have access to fresh and organically grown vegetables at the comfort of their own homes using minimal water. We do this by using different garden designs since different spaces require different gardening designs to maximize vegetable production. We use a combination of vertical gardens, raised beds and grow bags for vegetables. We guide our urban dwellers on how they can farm from start to the end on how they can grow their food organically . This will assist them in acquiring healthy and freshly grown vegetables at home.
