Collaborative futures thinking labs on buildings in existing contexts - Co-save precious buildings for the future.
Long description
New buildings cause about as much greenhouse gas emissions during construction as 50 years of operation. Therefore, in order to achieve the climate targets, careful renovations have a clear advantage over demolition and replacement construction.
Nevertheless, existing buildings are very often demolished.
Reasons include the fact that
- there is a lack of knowledge about the possibilities of renovation
- communication between the individual trades and stakeholders often does not take place
- there are outdated narratives and biases about “new buildings”
Time to act!
Time for Future Living Labs.
In Future Living Labs, all stakeholders gather: architects, homeowners, artisans, material processors, nature representatives, artists, municipal representatives. Together with residents, artists and children, they develop desirable futures for an existing building.
They meet on site. Call to actions in the form of flyers and posters draw attention to this.
Together, they:
DISCOVER
In the Lab room, models and visualisations show new trends and facts in renovating existing buildings.
FUTURIZE
With optimism for the future, all participants discuss the possibilities arising from the trends. Moderated workshops offer methods from futurology. Desirable futures are developed in the form of visions, concrete ideas, speculative design and tangible prototypes.
COOPERATE
In these co-creative Futures Thinking workshops, everyone can contribute something: architects and craftsmen report on the latest constructions, artists and children bring in completely different perspectives. Appreciation and understanding of each other is increased, joint plans are forged, knowledge flows.
Future Living Labs provide the framework for a co-creative turnaround in the building industry.
