Reducing textile waste by reclaiming discarded clothing and turning it into sustainable yarn, then teaching people to knit and crochet.
Long description
Giglet’s Garments develops and innovates new methods for keeping textiles out of the landfill that have a positive impact on our community, economy, and environment. Currently, our focus is on automating and streamlining the processing of materials for our Handmade line, which reclaims discarded textiles, turns them into sustainable yarn and then teaches people to knit and crochet in order to earn extra income.
We work with community members and organizations such as the Habitat for Humanity Restore to upcycle textiles that cannot be sold as-is. We are currently maxing out the impact we can have by processing our raw materials by hand. Our next step is to develop and implement machinery and establish a local warehouse where we are able to process even larger quantities of waste into new materials that do good for our community.
