Mango Bioplastic
Long description
Mango starch-based bioplastic, composed of 60% mango starch and 40% of gelatine.
This material is an excellent alternative for one-use plastic products, light-design materials, and packaging. It biodegrades within a 4 to 8-week time frame in compost conditions and loses shape when coming in contact with water, however, its production can be redesigned into a vegan material and with further investigation, a waterproof alternative can also be reached.
It can be made strong enough that it’s drilled, sawed, cut, sanded, thermoformed, sewn, glued, or shaped into any mold; if combined with its shell fibers and pressured it can be molded into an MDF-like material. It can be made thin enough that permits the light to go through, making this material a superb light design product; when put against a light source it emits an amber light that creates a soothing ambiance that permits the user to navigate easily through the space, shedding a light into the darkness.
The adaptability of this material makes it an ideal alternative to many plastic-based products, which only purpose is to be disposed of, it also has the capability to generate a new line of less perishable products designed from a more sustainable beginning.
