Matterpieces is a new movement for circular architecture and the new generation of cladding materials made from demolition waste.

Long description

For a long time, human needs were at the centre of architects’ work, disregarding the well-being of our planet and overstretching all its resources. Considering that the construction sector is responsible for about 50% of all raw materials extracted and that demolition and construction waste (CDW) represents one of the leading waste streams in the EU, studio8 proposes a change in CDW valorization, turning this waste into a strategic and noble raw material for world’s architecture. Matterpieces are cladding materials made from CDW, minimizing the consumption of natural raw materials and diverting waste away from landfills by applying the circular economy principles. Matterpieces upcycles typical inert waste, including glass, ceramic, bricks and old cement, to produce compelling solutions for floor panels, wall coverings, furniture and countertops. Matterpieces leads a whole new attitude towards circularity, presenting itself not only as a new sustainable material but also as a new movement which brings together demolition/waste management companies, architects, builders and producers to achieve circular construction.

Matterpieces offers the market two solutions: Matterpieces standard and Matterpieces exclusive+service. The first solution provides customers with a cladding material upcycled from general CDW supplied by waste management companies, allowing us more sustainability, business impact, and scalability. The second solution offers a unique product and strategy: we develop a specific product for a particular refurbishment project by upcycling its demolition waste and creating a system that keeps the debris in a closed circle.
