Wellbeing, of People and the Planet Through the Lens of Self-Agency and Interior Design
Long description
South Africa is in a crisis, with barriers to access to housing, food security, unemployment, and gender-based violence being exacerbated. These insurmountable challenges are highlighted even more so by the current electricity blackouts.
Why is it that, despite these so-called ‘strides’ politically and in the workplace, women still experience barriers to living a sovereign life? Women, and single mothers specifically, feel the brunt of this downtrodden economy and failing society.
If we uplift and empower women, it will flow into the family structure – which in turn will ripple through our communities and offer transformative and creative solutions to birth a new world.
We can create transformative spaces and housing solutions that support women in living their best lives possible. As Interior Designers, it is not enough for us to design spaces merely for style and luxury. We can impact people’s lives through design. We must trust and foster an intimate understanding of mother nature, culture, values, and wellness Only then can we craft interior spaces that nurture their definitions of personal growth, empowerment and well-being for people and the planet.
