Off cut is a sustainable clothing brand, that upcycles textile waste and thereby contributes to a more sustainable world.
Long description
Off Cut – Giving a third life to fabrics 40 million tonnes of textile waste are produced yearly by the global fashion industry ending up in landfills – or being shipped to developing countries such as Kenya. To the East African nation alone, this often criticised circle brings enough second-hand textiles to stock-up dozens of second hand markets – called “Mitumba” (Swahili for used) – in all major cities. Our approach with OFF CUT is – to give throw-away material from western countries and left-overs from production a third life by re-creating new and unique, individually designed fashion for men and women from it. A duvet becomes a men’s shirt, a curtain a stylish blouson jacket for women. -to create a sustainable clothing brand that upcycles fabrics with the ambition to minimise textile waste, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a more sustainable world. OFF CUT is the brainchild of Thabo Hüster, 26, a Kenyan-German start-up entrepreneur who grew up in Kenya and now lives and works in Berlin. “When I saw enormous amounts of textile waste ending up in Kenya, I wanted to reuse this valuable resource and create something meaningful from it.” OFF CUT is a part of the slow fashion movement which believes in quality fashion being worn longer, being re-used and recycled, a new life for Mitumba (used goods)
