AI technology to maximize the residual value of post-consumer textile waste from a circular perspective, preventing it from becoming waste
Long description
Two of the main factors related to the negative impact of the fashion industry are the exploitation of virgin resources for the production and the uncontrolled release of textile waste in the environment. The circular economy, i.e. the use of already existing textiles as a resource for production, is a solution to tackle both these issues.
To date, it is extremely complex to direct textile waste to circular destinations (ex. reuse, recycling, upcycling…), in fact most of it continues to end up in landfills.
To address this problem, we developed Re4Circular: it is an AI-tech that, just from the picture of a garment and of its label, can extract the data needed for its recovery. We provide this tool to the entities that collect discarded clothes. This sorting tool is linked to a B2B digital marketplace, so the clothes can be sold to companies/professionals that search used clothes for their business (ex. thrift shops, recycling companies, upcyclers…).
In this way, we facilitate the match between the B2B supply and demand of post-consumer textile waste.
We dream of a world in which there is no longer any textile waste and every scrap is caught and used as a new circular resource, continually re-entering the economic cycle. We dream of an entirely circular fashion system, no longer dependent on the planet’s resources.
