Renée creates (physical&online) Circular Material Hubs for creatives, where they purchase companies' leftover-waste as materials for their projects.
Long description
Renée Materials is a platform for Circular Material Hubs (CMH). It is a physical and soon-to-be digital space where companies (manufacturers, retailers and services) can sell or donate their leftovers, offcuts and surplus stock that can be creatively reused by students, creatives and makers for their projects.
By focusing on London, Renée Materials creates a bridge between enterprises who waste big amounts of materials (28% of London’s waste is commercial and industrial waste) and creatives who are in need of materials for their practice.
With London being the city with the lowest recycling rates in the UK, the Creative Industries being one of the most polluting fields, today’s natural-resource-shortage and with one of the worst cost of living crises falling upon creatives, Renée offers a win-win-win-win alternative. In fact, companies save money on waste management while optimising their ESG performance, creatives get access to affordable sustainably sourced materials, London gets closer to becoming a waste-free city and our creative practice weighs less on our planet.
Renée believes that something becomes waste just because it is in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong name. In our Circular Material Hub these precious resources are displayed as curated materials to be reutilised by creative users. We make sure that we carefully monitor our impact by collecting ethical data on user behaviour and on the amount, category and journey of the materials.
By fostering creative reuse and circular behaviours, Renée encourages creatives to design new rather than buy new.
