World's first recycled sunglasses made from packets of chips (MLP) empowering wastepickers along the way.

Long description

We have built the world’s first recycled sunglasses made from packets of chips, while empowering waste-pickers by working right alongside them. These packets of chips (multi-layered plastic packaging or MLP) are considered impossible to recycle. Globally, 0% of it is recycled. They contain 3-5 different types of material including metal, different types of plastic and cellulose (in some cases). Multi-layered plastic packaging (MLP) consists not only of packets of chips, but also chocolate wrappers, shampoo sachets, Tetrapak and many other types of packaging. We have worked hard over the last two years to develop a patent-pending process that chemo-mechanically extracts materials from post-consumer MLP waste. We then convert these materials into premium products, starting first with sunglasses. We do this working right alongside wastepickers:

  • We pay them premium prices for the waste.
  • 10% of our sales go towards the education of their children.
  • We hire them directly, and have built a process where they can handle 50-75% of it.

So these sunglasses – our products – are not just environmentally beneficial, they’re also socially relevant. We are even neutralizing the carbon footprint of the delivery. We are really working hard to make these the most sustainable sunglasses you ever own. And this is just the beginning. Our upcycled material properties are close to virgin-like which allows for an array of product applications. In addition to other products, we hope to work with global brands to build sustainable products that aren’t just products, they are true stories of impact.
