Fishing boat made from 100% recycled plastic

Long description

Eco Brixs is a social enterprise that focuses on recycling plastic and creating income opportunities for the community. This is possible as it pays individuals for each kilogram of plastic they collect and bring to Eco Brixs. The plastic is then recycled into new Eco-Products, such as bricks and lumber, and then sold within Uganda. Using this revenue, more plastic is purchased from the community and so the cycle continues.

Eco Brixs aims to build a new product – a fishing boat made from 100% recycled plastic, measuring 32 feet and weighing an estimated 1.2 tonnes.

This project will operate around the shores of Lake Victoria, which is heavily polluted by plastic waste. The project will benefit the fishing communities of Lambu in several ways. Firstly, the plastic used to create this item will be purchased from the community (creating income opportunities) as they bring plastic to one of 34 Community Collection Hubs in the area. Secondly, this tackles the area’s huge plastic problem, clearing up plastic waste. Thirdly, the fishing boats will be sold to local fishermen/women, offering them a cheaper, stronger and more durable fishing boats than those made from traditional materials such as timber.
