A uniquely circular connect between urban producers of compost and rural consumers bringing about enhancement of soil and human health.

Long description

This citizen-driven project is a first-of-its-kind project in India conceived and executed by Solid Waste Management Round Table (SWMRT), Bangalore, which is a not-for-profit collective of SWM practitioners. The main objective of the SGCC is to ensure that the nutritious compost produced in situ by apartments/gated communities by processing their properly segregated kitchen and garden waste in a scientific manner reaches farmers (both organic and chemical), terrace/home gardeners and resellers. In closing the loop, the urban communities can also derive naturally grown produce from such farmers.

Operational model:

  1.       The SGCC campaigners carry out due diligence to ensure that any apartment that wants to join the SGCC network has a scientific composting method in place.
  2.       We ask the producers to sign up via a Google form available on our website by sharing the pictures of their composting system and information on the processes in place.
  3.       Once the sign-up is through, we add them to the group and invite them to take part in the weekly Saturday sales.
  4.       We publish a list of apartments that have excess stock, relevant contact numbers and addresses. We also provide Google location pins to help the buyers figure out the distance and ultimately, the transport cost.
  5.   Interested buyers call up the producers directly and visit the community to check the quality of compost. If satisfied, they go ahead and load up the compost
