14-50% of fruits and vegetables do not get the chance to be consumed because they get spoilt on the way from farm to retail. This means not just a loss of edible food, but also wastage of resources that went into production, lower or no pay for farmers, and a large carbon footprint.
TechniFris reduces food loss in the supply chain using a patented technology of air sterilization that extends the shelf-life of fresh produce during storage and transport.
We use the power of visible light to remove contaminants (like mould and bacteria) and ethylene (a plant-ripening hormone) from the air, thereby protecting fruits and vegetables from diseases and untimely ripening. Using as little energy as a light bulb and weighing as little as your cabin luggage, this intrinsically safe device ensures that high-quality, safe produce reaches the hands of consumers, while providing growers with an income that matches their efforts.
By treating only the air around the produce using a chemical-free technology, and not spraying, dipping or changing the natural state of the fruits and vegetables, we provide a solution that is completely safe for those consuming the produce, handling the produce and the environment.
We are perfecting our MVP for storage spaces now by conducting several trials on different types of produce, and will eventually develop a product for refrigerated transport also.
