Mana is a social enterprise that has been carrying out textile and upcycling projects with cooperatives in an ethical manner.
Long description
Mana social enterprise has been creating creative business and impact models for vulnerable communities through their skills since 2019. Established as a result of research on the relationship between violence against women and regular income in Turkiye and that aims for women to reach regular income in the short term, and to deepen them in areas such as social cohesion, capacity building and empowerment in the long term.
Since the maker economy is very common in Turkiye, it aims to create an income model for women through local handcraft techniques such as macrame, sewing, crochet, knitting, weaving, etc., since it enables us to design the project inclusively. It creates a business and impact model through upcycle textile design and production with a more responsible and ecofeminist point of view, rather than regular models.
Mana gets their waste and waste fibers or old season products from textile retailer brands, develops upcycled designs and then produces upcycled products with women’s cooperatives across Turkiye and returns the final product to the brand who is the owner of the waste.
Gender inequality and irresponsible production and consumption, which are two major problems in Turkiye and creating behavioral changes in these two issues is Mana’s main goals. For this reason, it has the mission of producing collectively and developing business rather than acting alone.
