Wastery | products from coffee waste, organic waste. Biomaterials Research and Education.
Long description
My country Bosnia and Herzegovina is the largest consumer of coffee in the Balkans. At the beginning of last year, together with my partner, who owns a chain of coffee shops in Sarajevo, we began to investigate what we could do with the enormous waste from his coffee shops. We discovered a small number of works that talk about the benefits of coffee waste as biodiesel, heating elements. And later, with experiments, we will come up with biomaterials from coffee waste that can be used to make objects. We have tested all three products and they are ready for production when we get the funds to buy the machines for them. My job is biodesign, since the academy where I graduated with a degree in product design, and I am involved in biomaterials research. In the course of this research, I teach, hold workshops on biodesign, and the idea is to continue researching biomaterials from living organisms and organic waste, using the latest technologies. In the process of researching coffee waste, we discovered that the biobinder or bioglue that we invented, can be used for all and other solid organic waste. So right now, in addition to coffee waste, we started collecting eggshells, walnut shells, seashells. So, our work consists of: research of biomaterials and their application as products. The second part is education in the form of lectures, workshops on biodesign and sustainability within schools and institutions where we have been operating for years.
