WasteWay cycle is an initiative that aggregate and transform single-use plastic waste into durable backpacks for school pupils and adult.

Long description

The project is using discarded Single-use plastic bags, water sachet and old textile to upcycle, turning them into useful products such as bags, house decorations, slippers and clothes. With our SMS and Toll-Free line Digital platform we easily locate households for waste collection as raw materials. As a member of the plastic leadership platform in Sierra Leone, WasteWay Cycle launched it multi-purpose upcycle Plastic and Textile Bags that can be used by Student, corporates, hotels and restaurants, individuals and others. The bags are produced from upcycled plastic materials contributing to an increased reuse of plastic and textile based on the Circular Economy Approach.
In Sierra Leone, approximately 120.000 tons of untreated plastic waste are generated per annum with only open burning practice causing toxic gas polluting the environment. Flooding partly caused by plastic wastes costs 8 million dollars annually which forms 2% of the country’s GDP, the country’s use of plastic has tripled over the past few years, causing an alarming economic, health, and environmental problem.
